Nearly a year after a Fatewadi man went missing, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch on Tuesday uncovered a gruesome crime — his body buried beneath the kitchen floor of his own house.
Police arrested the victim’s wife, Ruby Bihari, and her alleged boyfriend, Imran Vaghela, for murdering Sameer Bihari and concealing his body in a plot eerily similar to the film Drishyam.
Ruby had earlier told police that her husband had left home after a quarrel and never returned. But as discrepancies emerged in her statements, the Crime Branch reopened the case. During questioning, Ruby allegedly confessed that she and Imran killed Sameer after he discovered their affair.
Investigators believe the two strangled Sameer inside the house, then buried his body under the kitchen floor. The next day, Ruby reportedly had the flooring reconstructed with fresh concrete to hide all traces of the crime.
Following a tip-off, police and forensic experts excavated the kitchen and recovered skeletal remains suspected to be Sameer’s. The remains have been sent for DNA testing and forensic analysis to confirm identity and cause of death.
Preliminary findings suggest Ruby continued to live in the same house for months, pretending her husband had abandoned her, while Imran helped her destroy evidence.
Both accused are in custody and being interrogated to determine whether others were involved. The Crime Branch has registered a case of murder, conspiracy, and destruction of evidence.
