A burglary took place in Ahmedabad’s Bapunagar area where thieves broke into a locked house and stole gold ornaments and cash worth over ₹11 lakh while the family was away in Uttar Pradesh.
According to the FIR lodged by Rakesh Kumar Singh, a resident of Ela Society in Bapunagar, the theft occurred between October 31 and November 1. Singh had left for Uttar Pradesh with his wife and children on October 24, while his parents followed the next day. Before leaving, they locked the house securely.
Singh’s sister, who had a spare key to feed the fish, discovered the break-in around 1 pm on November 1. She found the main door broken, cupboards ransacked, and valuables missing. She immediately informed Singh, who returned to Ahmedabad on November 3 and confirmed that gold ornaments and cash worth ₹11.03 lakh had been stolen.
Police said the burglars appeared to have cut through the door frame and broken open safes on both floors of the house. The rooms were left in disarray with damaged locks and scattered belongings.
A case has been registered against unidentified persons under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Forensic teams have collected evidence from the spot, and CCTV footage from nearby houses and shops is being examined.
A senior Bapunagar police officer said the burglary seemed planned, adding, “The pattern indicates the culprits knew the house would remain unoccupied for several days.”
