A 27-year-old woman was seriously injured after her husband allegedly attacked her with a knife in public near Dudh Sagar Dairy in Khodiyarnagar, Ahmedabad, on Monday morning. The incident, captured on CCTV, led to a swift police response.
According to police, the accused, Mayank Patel, stabbed his wife multiple times on her neck and hands outside a shop near Dudh Sagar Dairy in the Nikol area before fleeing. Passersby rushed to help and called the police. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the couple had a love marriage about one-and-a-half years ago. The woman had reportedly moved back to her parents’ home four months ago due to alleged harassment by her in-laws.
Police added that she had previously lodged complaints against her husband and in-laws for mental and physical harassment. On Monday, when she had stepped out for some personal work, Mayank allegedly confronted her and attacked her.
“The accused attacked his wife in public and fled the scene. CCTV footage has been recovered, and efforts are on to trace and arrest him,” a Nikol police officer said.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for attempt to murder, and further investigation is underway.
