A woman from Jamalpur has filed a complaint with Vejalpur police, alleging that she and several relatives were cheated of over ₹9.1 lakh by a Juhapura-based family posing as Gujarat Housing Board agents.
According to the FIR, the accused — Shainbanu Anwarbhai Sipai, her husband Anwarbhai, and their children Ayan and Miraba — promised houses and shops near Sarkhej Amber Tower under a government scheme. Victims were lured into paying hefty deposits, for which the family allegedly issued forged Housing Board receipts.
The complainant, Johra Qureshi of Astodia, said the family convinced them to purchase four houses and two shops about five years ago. An initial cash payment of 1.8 lakh was made, followed by further deposits, totalling 9.1 lakh. In March this year, the accused even produced a notarised affidavit to appear credible.
When the promised properties were not delivered, victims went to the family’s residence in Juhapura but found it locked. Neighbours said they had already shifted. Attempts to reach them by phone failed, and when confronted, their children allegedly abused and threatened the complainants.
Police said the family is suspected of duping several others using the same method. An FIR has been registered under charges of cheating, breach of trust, forgery, and intimidation. The accused are absconding, and investigations are underway.
