Ahmedabad Car Showroom Staff Arrested for ₹9.71 Crore Fraud Involving 68 Cars

A manager and assistant manager of a car showroom in Ahmedabad have been arrested for allegedly cheating their company by secretly selling 68 cars, causing a loss of around ₹9.71 crore.

According to a media report, the fraud came to light during an internal audit in July. The company’s CEO, Rajneesh Arora, then filed a police complaint. The audit found that 53 second-hand cars were missing, and 15 others existed only on paper.

Police said the accused, manager Jitendra Sharma and assistant manager Chirag Dutt, sold these cars to local dealers between April and July but didn’t record the sales in company books. They took advantage of the company’s process, where a customer’s old car is bought back during a new purchase. Instead, the two contacted customers directly and sold the old cars elsewhere.

Further checks showed Chirag had personally sold 16 cars and pocketed the full amount, along with a ₹10,000 commission per car. To hide the fraud, they routed some payments through official accounts to make things look normal.

Chirag also has a history of similar fraud in a previous job, where he allegedly used fake documents to sell a car, though no FIR was registered at that time.

The fraud was uncovered when several vehicle records were found missing during the audit. Both men are now in police custody.
