A 23-year-old woman working as a receptionist at a pet grooming shop in Ahmedabad has lodged a police complaint against a delivery man, alleging that he attempted to sexually assault her after taking her to a deserted area under false pretences.
The incident reportedly took place on the night of July 26. The complainant, identified as Reena (name changed), a resident of Naroda, was being dropped home from work by the accused, Anil Thakor. Both are employed at a pet spa on Visat-Gandhinagar Highway.
Earlier that day, Reena had injured her hand in a minor accident while travelling on a Rapido bike. After receiving treatment at a clinic and getting an X-ray, she returned to work and informed her supervisors. Due to the pain in her hand, she was allowed to leave early in a vehicle transporting pet supplies to her area. Thakor was assigned to drop her home.
According to a media report, the FIR filed at Chandkheda police station, instead of driving her straight to Naroda, Thakor allegedly diverted the car toward a secluded spot near Kul Jogni Mata temple close to the Bhat toll plaza. There, he stopped the vehicle and asked her to come into the nearby bushes, saying it would “only take five minutes.”
When she refused and tried to leave the car, Thakor allegedly grabbed her injured hand and pulled her back inside. She then warned him that she would call the police and phoned her supervisor. Following the call, Thakor let her go and resumed driving toward the city.
However, the woman stated that Thakor kept pleading with her not to report the incident, calling it a matter of “honour.” Feeling unsafe, she got out of the car midway and took a rickshaw home.
Reena filed a formal complaint the following day. The FIR includes charges of wrongful restraint, use of criminal force with intent to outrage modesty, and attempted sexual assault. Police are investigating the case.
