Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was granted bail by a Delhi court on Thursday in connection with a money laundering case linked to a defunct excise policy. Special Judge Niyay Bindu approved bail upon submission of a bond worth ₹1 lakh.
The Enforcement Directorate had sought 48 hours to challenge the bail order in a higher court, but Judge Bindu clarified that no stay had been imposed on the bail granted to Kejriwal.
During the proceedings, the ED alleged that Kejriwal had connections to illicit funds through co-accused individuals, citing transactions during a political campaign in Goa. The defense countered, arguing lack of substantial evidence against the AAP leader.
Earlier today, Judge Bindu had reserved the verdict after a two-day hearing. Kejriwal’s counsel is expected to complete the bail formalities tomorrow.
Arvind Kejriwal was arrested on March 21, just ahead of national elections. The Supreme Court had granted him interim bail until June 1 to campaign for Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
