The conmen hacked the WhatsApp of a woman who is in the US and used her WhatsApp message to seek help from her female friend in India conning her of Rs 50,000.
The next day when the female friend of the woman whose WhatsApp was hacked got another message seeking money she suspected something fishy and contacted her friend in the US about the messages. She learned that her US friend had never sent any message seeking financial help.
Later the female friend filed a complaint with the Maninagar police station.
The complaint by Rupangi, a resident of Maninagar Crossroads and an estate agent by profession, said she got a message on May 6 from her friend who is based in the US. The friend asked Rupangi to transfer Rs50,000 to a particular account.
