The Gujarat government has extended the night curfew in Ahmedabad and seven other cities of the state till December 10, even as daily Covid-19 cases in the state jumped nearly 50% on Tuesday.
Night curfew will remain in force in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, Jamnagar, Junagadh, and Bhavnagar cities from 1:00 am to 5:00 am, as per a notification issued by the home department. The notification said the decision has been taken following a review of the pandemic situation, and only essential services would be operational during the curfew hours.
All shops, commercial establishments, stalls, shopping complexes, and other commercial activities will be allowed till midnight. Restaurants have been allowed to operate till midnight with up to 75% capacity. The attendance at marriages has been capped at 400 and that at funerals at 100. Attendance at all political, social, educational, religious, and cultural programmes has also been capped at 400.
Separately, Covid-19 cases in the state have jumped to 40 on Tuesday from 27 a day earlier, as per the health department bulletin. Ten cases have been reported in Ahmedabad city and seven each in Jamnagar and Vadodara cities. Four cases have come to light in Surat city, and three in Navsari. Bhavnagar city and Kutch reported two cases, and Anand, Gandhinagar city, Gir Somnath, and Vadodara rural one case. No Covid-related death was reported.
The health department said 5.38 lakh vaccine doses were administered in the state in the last 24 hours to take the cumulative tally to 8.10 crore. The number of fully vaccinated people in the state stands at 3.52 crore, and that of partially vaccinated at 1.06 crore, as per Co-WIN data.
