Ahmedabad: Daily Covid-19 cases in Gujarat jumped to the highest in four months on Wednesday, health department data showed.

Forty-two new Covid-19 cases were reported in the state on Wednesday, the highest since July 10 when 53 cases were reported, and the joint-highest since July 11 when 42 cases were reported, health department bulletin showed. The number is also more than double yesterday’s 20 cases.

The steep jump in Covid-19 cases was largely because of 16 new cases being reported in Ahmedabad city, the highest since July 4, when 19 cases were reported in the state’s financial capital, an analysis of the data showed.

“Daily cases have fallen to around 20, and today’s rise could be a one-off. There is no reason to worry. We are keeping a close eye on the Covid-19 numbers,” said a health department official when asked to comment about the steep jump.

As per the health department, Surat city and Valsad reported five new cases, and Vadodara city four new cases. Rajkot city, Junagadh, and Morbi reported two cases each, while Anand, Bharuch, Gir Somnath, Jamnagar city, Kutch, and Tapi reported one case. No Covid-19 related deaths were reported in the state today.

More than 4.09 lakh vaccines were administered in the state as of 4:00 pm today, taking the total to 7.28 crore. According to the Co-WIN dashboard, over 4.49 crore people in Gujarat have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 2.79 crore have received both doses.
