The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced WhatsApp-based services that allow members to access essential Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) account information directly through the messaging platform. The facility enables subscribers to check their PF balance, view their five most recent transactions and download their passbook without visiting an EPFO office or navigating its online portal.
The service was launched on November 1 by Union Minister for Labour and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya as part of the celebrations marking EPFO’s Foundation Day.
Announcing the initiative on X, EPFO said the launch marked another milestone in its efforts to expand digital access to provident fund services.
Under the new facility, members can access the services by sending a message to the official WhatsApp number, +91 8796441800, or by scanning the QR code shared by EPFO.
The initiative aims to make routine EPF account-related queries simpler by allowing subscribers to access basic information through a platform they already use.
How to Check EPF Balance Through WhatsApp
EPFO members can follow these steps to use the new WhatsApp facility:
Save the official EPFO WhatsApp number, +91 8796441800, in their phone contacts.
Open WhatsApp and send a message saying ‘Hi’ to the saved number.
Follow the instructions displayed in the chat.
Choose the required service to check the PF balance, view the last five transactions or download the EPF passbook.
Members can also access the service by scanning the QR code provided in EPFO’s official announcement.
Subscribers should ensure that they are communicating with the official EPFO number and must not share their passwords, account credentials or OTPs with unauthorised persons.
What Services Can EPFO Members Access on WhatsApp?
The newly launched facility currently offers three key services:
- Check EPF balance
Members can enquire about their provident fund balance through WhatsApp, making it easier to keep track of their accumulated savings.
- View the last five transactions
The service allows subscribers to check their five most recent EPF transactions and review recent account activity.
- Download EPF passbook
Members can download their EPF passbook through WhatsApp. The passbook provides details of provident fund contributions and account transactions, helping subscribers monitor their savings.
These features are intended to simplify access to frequently required account information without requiring members to navigate multiple sections of the EPFO website.
EPFO Continues to Expand Digital Services
The WhatsApp facility is part of EPFO’s broader efforts to improve the accessibility and convenience of its digital services. By introducing another channel for routine account enquiries, the organisation aims to make it easier for salaried employees to monitor their provident fund accounts.
However, the newly announced facility is currently limited to balance enquiries, viewing the last five transactions and downloading the passbook. EPFO has not announced the availability of services such as claim settlement, withdrawals or profile corrections through this WhatsApp facility.
Members requiring these services will continue to need the EPFO portal or other designated official channels.
What Members Should Keep in Mind
While the WhatsApp facility offers a convenient way to access basic EPF information, subscribers should rely only on official EPFO communication channels for account-related services.
Members can also cross-check the information received through WhatsApp with their official EPF passbook and account records.
With this launch, EPFO has added another digital access point for its subscribers, making routine provident fund information easier to access without the need for a separate portal login.
