Railway connectivity to Ambaji, one of Gujarat’s major pilgrimage destinations, is set to improve with the construction of a new 117-km railway line connecting Taranga Hill, Ambaji and Abu Road. The project, estimated to cost ₹3,050 crore, includes multiple tunnels, bridges and new railway stations.
The excavation of the longest tunnel between Ambaji and Abu Road is nearing completion, while tunnel construction is progressing at other locations. Work on the Ambaji railway station is also underway.
The project aims to provide direct rail connectivity to the temple town, which attracts lakhs of devotees throughout the year, especially during Navratri.
Ambaji Station to Feature Temple-Inspired Architecture
The Ambaji railway station is planned as a major spiritual and tourism centre. Its exterior will be designed on the architectural theme of the Shri Arasuri Amba Mataji Temple, featuring traditional Indian temple elements, carved stonework, decorative lattice designs and murals depicting the goddess.
The station’s interior will offer modern facilities similar to those found at airports. Plans also include an arrival plaza, landscaped surroundings, organised parking and facilities to ensure easy movement for elderly and disabled passengers.
Five-Storey Building With 100-Room Budget Hotel
The station development plan includes a five-storey building housing a modern budget hotel with 100 rooms. The facility is intended to provide accommodation for pilgrims and tourists visiting Ambaji from distant places.
