An insect was allegedly found inside a sealed bottle of Jalaram Soda in Jamnagar, prompting a complaint to the Jamnagar Municipal Corporation’s (JMC) Food Department and raising concerns over the quality and safety of packaged beverages.
According to the complaint, a shopkeeper in the Shankar Tekri area received a consignment of Jalaram Soda bottles from the manufacturer. During an inspection, an insect was allegedly spotted inside one of the bottles, which was reportedly sealed.
The shopkeeper contacted the Jalaram Soda factory and reported the matter, seeking an explanation. However, the complainant alleged that the factory operator did not take the issue seriously.
The shopkeeper then approached the JMC Food Department and lodged a complaint seeking an investigation into the alleged contamination.
Acting on the complaint, Food Department officials reportedly inspected the Jalaram Soda factory and collected soda bottle samples for examination. The factory operator was issued a notice and fined ₹5,000 in connection with the incident.
The case has raised questions over quality-control practices in the manufacturing and bottling of packaged beverages. If the bottle was sealed when the insect was found, the investigation will have to determine how the foreign object entered the bottle and whether there were any lapses during manufacturing, bottling, storage or distribution.
Further action is expected based on the Food Department’s findings.
