The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) on Wednesday sealed a hotel and a bakery and took action against several other violators during a drive to curb littering and enforce food safety and hygiene standards.
The VMC Health Department sealed Gayatri Bhavan Hotel near Vadodara Railway Station after officials found that it was operating without an FSSAI licence. Food safety officers collected samples of various food items from the hotel and sent them to the civic body’s laboratory for testing. Further action will be taken based on the test results.
During a surprise inspection at Shivam Bakery in the Ramdevnagar area, officials found severely unhygienic conditions. The bakery was sealed and its operator was fined Rs 50,000 for violating cleanliness and hygiene norms.
In another action, the civic team raided a panipuri stall operating in unhygienic conditions. The operators reportedly fled after seeing the officials. The team removed illegal structures outside the stall and demolished the clay oven used for cooking.
The VMC also fined five people for littering in public places, collecting a total penalty of Rs 11,500.
