Yash’s much-awaited film ‘Toxic’ hit theatres on August 26 and delivered a massive opening at the box office. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the gangster-action drama crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in India on its opening day, while its worldwide gross collection reportedly surpassed Rs 140 crore.
The film marks Yash’s return to the big screen four years after ‘KGF: Chapter 2’ and has registered one of the biggest opening days for an Indian film.
Rs 101.10 Crore Net Collection in India
According to media reports, ‘Toxic’ was released across 24,579 screens in India. The film recorded a gross collection of Rs 120.75 crore and a net collection of Rs 101.10 crore on its first day.
With this opening, ‘Toxic’ has reportedly become the second non-sequel film after ‘RRR’ to cross the Rs 100 crore mark in India on its opening day.
Interestingly, the film performed particularly strongly in the Hindi market. Its language-wise first-day earnings were reportedly:
- Hindi: Rs 55 crore
- Kannada: Rs 23.30 crore
- Telugu: Rs 16 crore
- Tamil: Rs 5.50 crore
- Malayalam: Rs 1.30 crore
The Hindi version therefore contributed more to the film’s opening than its original Kannada version.
Rs 140.75 Crore Worldwide Opening
‘Toxic’ reportedly earned around Rs 20 crore from overseas markets on its opening day, taking its worldwide gross to approximately Rs 140.75 crore.
The film has also made a strong start among A-rated Indian films. Reports suggest it recorded the second-highest opening day in this category after ‘Dhurandhar 2’. The film had reportedly generated around Rs 85 crore through advance bookings before its theatrical release.
Rs 500 Crore Budget, Yash in a Double Role
Made on an estimated budget of Rs 500 crore, ‘Toxic’ is a gangster-action drama featuring Yash in a double role. The film also stars Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria, Rukmini Vasanth, Akshay Oberoi and Sudev Nair in prominent roles.
Yash’s next major project, ‘Ramayan’, is also expected to attract significant attention. If it manages to cross the Rs 100 crore mark on its opening day, Yash could become the first Indian actor to deliver Rs 100 crore-plus openings with three consecutive films, following ‘KGF: Chapter 2’ and ‘Toxic’.
