With mosquito infestation rising sharply after the monsoon, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has intensified its anti-mosquito drive across the city. During a large-scale inspection, officials detected mosquito breeding at several locations and sealed 16 premises, including seven construction sites, for violating public health norms.
As part of the special drive, action was also taken against the DHP construction site carrying out government work at Rajput Bhavan and within the Civil Hospital campus in the Vastral area.
Health Department teams inspected 1,016 construction sites across all seven city zones and found active mosquito breeding at 211 locations.The AMC also issued notices to 349 construction sites for failing to follow mosquito control guidelines.
A total fine of ₹10.11 lakh was imposed on violators. According to officials, the highest number of mosquito breeding spots were found in the city’s western, north-western and southern zones.The civic body’s action comes amid growing concerns over the spread of mosquito-borne diseases following the monsoon.
While the AMC has stepped up inspections and enforcement, residents continue to report a rise in cases of vector-borne illnesses, putting pressure on healthcare facilities across the city.Officials have urged construction agencies, property owners and residents to eliminate stagnant water and maintain cleanliness to prevent mosquito breeding.
The AMC has also warned that strict action, including sealing of premises and financial penalties, will continue against those found violating public health regulations.
