The Gujarat government has launched the Cyber Financial Fraud e-Zero FIR service, allowing victims of online financial fraud to register complaints from home without visiting a police station.
The new digital initiative was officially launched in Gandhinagar to ensure quicker action against cybercrime.Under the new system, victims only need to report the fraud by calling the 1930 cybercrime helpline. Once the complaint is registered, the system will automatically generate an e-Zero FIR and forward it to the concerned police station.Police officials will then contact the complainant, collect the required information, register the formal FIR as per legal procedures and begin the investigation.
The government said the new system will enable faster police intervention, improving the chances of freezing fraudulent transactions and recovering stolen money.The service has already recorded its first success.
In Ahmedabad, a resident who fell victim to a “digital arrest” cyber fraud was able to recover ₹15.76 lakh after the state’s first e-Zero FIR triggered swift action by the Cyber Crime Department, which promptly froze the fraud amount.
