Starting today, July 18, 2023, visitors to the historic Girnar Mountain in Junagadh are required to register online before their ascent. This new ‘in-out’ registration system aims to enhance safety following a recent incident where a young man was attacked by a lion on the mountain.
The local administration has introduced this measure as part of its efforts to ensure visitor security. Those who arrive without completing the online registration will have to register offline at the site.
Visitors can access the online registration through a dedicated website: Register.bhavnathtemple.com. Upon scanning a QR code provided by officials, group leaders will need to input details such as their name, mobile number, gender, age, city, state, and expected date of visit. Additionally, they must upload their Aadhaar card and a photo.
The decision follows consultations among district officials and police to streamline visitor traffic while ensuring safety measures are in place. The website was developed by local National Informatics Centre (NIC) team members Bhavaneshwar Bugadia, Hitesh Tank, and Shayar Rathod.
A QR code display stand will also be placed near the new staircase for easy access. Registration is mandatory both when entering and exiting Girnar. Furthermore, each visitor is required to carry an identification card. For those without smartphones, offline registration options will remain available.
