The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has stepped up its monsoon preparedness measures to ensure public safety and uninterrupted civic services during the rainy season. A high-level review meeting was held to assess readiness and finalize plans for handling rain-related emergencies.
As part of its flood management strategy, AMC has deployed 40 high-capacity ‘Varuna’ pumps and made special pumping arrangements at 26 vulnerable underpasses across the city to prevent waterlogging. Emergency response teams have also been placed on high alert to address public complaints and emergencies promptly.
To strengthen monitoring and coordination, AMC has established a 24×7 central monsoon control room at Paldi, along with dedicated control rooms in all seven municipal zones. The civic body has also enhanced its technological infrastructure with 42 automatic rain gauges and a network of 1,790 surveillance cameras for real-time monitoring of weather conditions and critical locations.
The review focused on key issues such as waterlogging prevention, underpass management, cleaning of catch pits, response to fallen trees, and ensuring effective health services during the monsoon.
The meeting was chaired by Mayor Hitesh Barot and attended by Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani, Standing Committee Chairman Kamlesh Patel, Ruling Party Leader Jashu Thakor, and senior officials from various departments.
