The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) has announced major traffic diversions on Surat’s Ring Road flyover for the next 62 days as part of ongoing construction work for the Surat Metro Rail project. The restrictions are being imposed to facilitate pier cap work on metro pillars along the Bhestan-Saroli corridor.
Under the revised traffic plan, heavy vehicles travelling from the Mandarwaja Ring Road overbridge towards Sahara Darwaja and the railway station will not be permitted to use the flyover. Instead, they will be diverted to the road beneath the bridge.
Similarly, heavy vehicles coming from Sahara Darwaja towards the Mandarwaja Ring Road overbridge will also be barred from accessing the flyover and must use the underpass route.
Authorities have also restricted heavy vehicle movement on the Mandarwaja Ring Road bridge approach from Bombay Market. Vehicles heading towards Udhna Darwaja have been advised to take alternate routes via the road beneath Parvat Patiya bridge, passing through Kabutar Circle, Anjana Farm and Kinnari Cinema.
Another designated route for heavy vehicles bound for Udhna Darwaja is via Anjana Bridge, Bhathena overbridge and Rokadiya Hanuman Mandir Road.
In addition, heavy vehicles travelling from Falsawadi towards Mandarwaja will be required to pass beneath the overbridge instead of using the flyover.
The traffic police have further stated that the flyover will remain closed to light vehicles daily between 11 pm and 6 am throughout the construction period. Motorists have been urged to follow the diversion routes and cooperate with authorities to ensure smooth traffic movement during the metro work.
