The Food Department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) seized 452 litres of suspected ghee worth ₹2.85 lakh during a raid on a dairy unit in the Kathwada area. The factory was subsequently sealed after officials found irregularities in its licensing documents.
The action comes a day after the AMC’s food safety teams conducted raids in CTM, Vatva and Dudheshwar areas, where they seized around 4,850 kg of suspected cow ghee valued at ₹31.81 lakh.
Continuing its crackdown for the second consecutive day, the department inspected a unit operating under the name Ovati Shri Matangi Dairy and Food Products at Kathwada Industrial Park. During the inspection, officials found that the factory owner, Chintan Sureshbhai Shah, was allegedly operating with an expired licence that carried the address of a different location.
Investigators further discovered that the licence did not authorise the production of pure ghee. Despite this, ghee manufacturing activities were reportedly being carried out at the facility.
The inspection also revealed unhygienic production conditions and a lack of proper cleanliness standards. Officials additionally found products such as butter and mishri being marketed and sold under the label of “Cow’s Pure Ghee.”
Following the findings, AMC officials sealed the factory and collected samples of the products for laboratory testing. Further action will be taken based on the test results and the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
