A nine-year-old boy sustained injuries after being attacked by a pet Rottweiler in Ahmedabad’s Vastrapur area on Wednesday.
According to the complaint filed with the police, Dineshbhai Kantilal Rot was working at a bungalow in Lad Society when the incident occurred. His son, Ashwin, was sitting outside and playing a game on a mobile phone.
Police said a woman residing in the society allegedly brought her pet Rottweiler, named Heju, outside and allowed it to roam freely. The dog reportedly attacked the child without warning, biting him on the head and near the eye.
The frightened boy attempted to flee and took shelter behind a parked motorcycle. Residents who witnessed the incident rushed to his aid and managed to rescue him from the dog.
Ashwin was immediately taken to a hospital, where he underwent treatment and received stitches for his injuries.
Following the incident, the boy’s father lodged a complaint against the dog’s owner, Alpaben Hiteshkumar Rajput, at Vastrapur Police Station.
Officials from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s Cattle Nuisance Control Department also visited the area and verified the dog’s registration and vaccination records. According to reports, the owner later shifted the dog to a farmhouse in Khambhat.
The incident has once again raised concerns about public safety and responsible pet ownership, particularly regarding powerful dog breeds in residential areas. Similar incidents in the past have sparked debate over stricter regulations and safety measures for pet owners.
