On a campus usually filled with academic routines, a different kind of conversation unfolded, one that did not rely on words but on colours, strokes and quiet reflection. GLS University’s “100 Hearts for the Voiceless” turned attention towards those often seen yet rarely noticed, the stray animals that share the city’s streets.
At the centre of this initiative was the painting competition, “A Street, A Soul, A Story,” where nearly 180 students came together, each bringing their own perspective to canvas. Some painted loneliness, others resilience; a few captured fleeting moments of kindness, while many chose to depict the everyday struggles of survival. Together, the artworks formed a powerful narrative that spoke of silent struggles and unspoken bonds between humans and animals. With on-the-spot registrations adding to the spontaneity, the space evolved into a living gallery of empathy, where select pieces stood out for their emotional depth and storytelling.
Beyond the canvases, the conversation continued. Actor Karan Tacker featured in the Decoded talk series hosted by Dr Chandni Kapadia, while interactive segments such as “The Pawdcast,” “Sip and Spill,” and “Label Lab” invited students to share, listen and reflect. What emerged was more than participation; it was awareness shaped through dialogue and experience.
In the end, the initiative lingered not just as an event, but as a quiet reminder that understanding begins with observation, empathy can be learned, and even the smallest expression on canvas or in conversation can give voice to those who cannot speak.
