A major food safety violation has come to light in Mehsana, where officials seized and destroyed more than 2,000 kilograms of rotten and worm-infested mangoes allegedly meant for juice production.
The Mehsana Food and Drug Department conducted the operation at a warehouse of Patidar Ras Kendra, a wholesale mango supplier located in Mahadev Industrial Park near Nugar village. The unit was reportedly involved in the large-scale processing of mango pulp and juice for commercial sale.
Acting on a tip-off, Food Safety Officer V.J. Chaudhary and his team carried out a surprise inspection of the facility. During the raid, officials discovered large quantities of spoiled mangoes, many of which were infested with worms and deemed unfit for human consumption.
Authorities immediately seized and destroyed 2,025 kilograms of the contaminated fruit. In addition, 230 grams of mango juice prepared from the stock was also discarded.
Officials said the condition of the mangoes posed potential health risks to consumers. The incident has raised fresh concerns over food safety standards and quality control practices, particularly during the summer season when demand for mango-based products remains high.
