Over 1.5 Million Hits in Two Minutes Trigger Cyberattack Concerns, But CBSE Re-Evaluation Portal Remains Operational; 16,000 Students Submit Requests

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Tuesday said its Class 12 re-evaluation portal faced multiple cyberattack attempts even as thousands of students accessed the platform to apply for post-result services.

According to an update from the board’s cybersecurity team, the portal remained fully functional despite the attacks and successfully managed heavy student traffic throughout the day. By 3 pm, more than 16,000 students had completed their submissions, while over 8,000 users were simultaneously active on the platform.

Update from our Cybersecurity Teams:

The CBSE revaluation portal is currently supporting over 8,000 concurrent users. As of 3:00 PM today, more than 16,000 students have successfully completed their submissions.

CBSE revealed that malicious actors tried to disrupt the portal through a series of cyberattacks. The most serious incident involved an alleged denial-of-service (DoS) attack, during which the system received nearly 1.5 million hits within just two minutes. The board also recorded more than one lakh attempts to gain unauthorised access to files during the same period.

Despite the unusually high volume of traffic and attack attempts, the portal continued to operate without interruption. Students were able to apply for verification of marks, obtain scanned copies of answer sheets and submit requests for re-evaluation.

Alongside strengthening cybersecurity measures, CBSE said it has introduced several improvements based on student feedback. One of the key changes is the extension of session duration on the portal, reducing the chances of applicants being automatically logged out while completing the submission process. The enhancements have been implemented to make the re-evaluation process smoother and more user-friendly.

The board assured students that its technical and cybersecurity teams are maintaining constant surveillance of the platform to prevent disruptions and ensure uninterrupted services.

“Our teams remain vigilant and responsive to ensure our dearest students are facilitated in all ways possible,” CBSE said in its update.

The re-evaluation portal plays a crucial role for students seeking post-result services following the declaration of Class 12 board examination results. With a large number of applications being processed, the board has advised students to continue using the official portal and rely on updates issued through official channels.

The development comes amid a surge in demand for verification and re-evaluation services, with CBSE working to maintain seamless access despite repeated cyber intrusion attempts.
