Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA) has made significant changes to the traffic system at Terminal 2, aimed at reducing congestion that had frustrated passengers and drivers alike.
The number of exit gates has jumped from four to ten, which now includes a dedicated VIP lane. Entry gates have also expanded, increasing from three to eight. This revamped system has been operational for about a month and is already showing positive results.
Traffic at Terminal 2 has been on the rise, with daily vehicle counts ranging between 5,000 and 5,500. The situation worsened after Air India moved all its domestic and international flights to this terminal. Previously, vehicles often faced lengthy delays near toll booths and exits, pushing some drivers over the airport’s eight-minute free pickup window and leading to unexpected parking fees.
But now? Airport officials report that vehicles typically clear out of the terminal in about five minutes—even during peak times. This improvement helps ease bottlenecks and reduces wait times significantly.
