A newborn girl from Gujarat’s Kutch district has successfully overcome a rare and life-threatening congenital condition after undergoing a complex surgery at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. The infant was diagnosed with Bilateral Choanal Atresia, a rare birth defect in which both nasal passages are completely blocked, making normal breathing extremely difficult.
Recognising the severity of the condition, a team of specialists at the hospital planned and executed a delicate surgical procedure to restore the baby’s airway. Using advanced medical technology, doctors performed a septectomy to remove the obstruction and create a clear nasal passage, enabling the infant to breathe normally.
The surgery was carried out through a coordinated effort involving ENT surgeons, anaesthetists, paediatricians and other medical staff. Doctors said the procedure was successful and the newborn responded well to treatment.
Following the operation, the baby is reported to be in good health and is breathing naturally through her nose without any medical assistance. The case has been hailed as a significant achievement for the government-run hospital, highlighting the expertise and capabilities available in the state’s public healthcare system.
Gujarat Minister of State Praful Pansheriya praised the medical team for their efforts and said civil hospitals run by the state government have emerged as a dependable source of quality healthcare for economically weaker and needy families.
