Mumbai-based NMIMS University will start academic sessions at its new Ahmedabad off-campus near Sanand from July 1 with MBA and BCom (Hons) programmes, while law courses are scheduled to commence in mid-July.
The Ahmedabad campus is NMIMS’s seventh off-campus centre and its first in Gujarat.
In the inaugural academic year, the university will offer five programmes — MBA, BBA, BCom (Hons), BA-LLB (Hons) and BBA-LLB (Hons) — with 60 seats in each course. Nearly 50 students have already confirmed admission for the first MBA batch.
The campus has witnessed strong initial demand. Ahmedabad received around 8,000 applications for just 60 MBA seats, out of nearly 52,000 applications submitted across NMIMS campuses for approximately 1,600 postgraduate management seats.
In-charge Vice Chancellor Meena Chintamaneni said the response highlights Gujarat’s growing attraction as an education hub.
“Ahmedabad offers the right blend of affordability, connectivity, industry presence and quality of life. We see immense long-term potential for the campus as the region emerges as a major educational and economic centre,” she said.
Among undergraduate aspirants, 42 per cent of 1,468 applicants for BCom (Hons) and 42 per cent of 7,211 applicants for BBA selected Ahmedabad as their preferred campus.
Fees and academic model
The MBA programme fee has been fixed at Rs 9 lakh per year, while undergraduate courses will cost between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 2.25 lakh annually.
Chintamaneni said the campus follows the university’s “One NMIMS” model.
“Whether students study in Mumbai, Bengaluru or Ahmedabad, the syllabus, academic delivery, evaluation process and degree remain the same. Senior anchor faculty members coordinate teaching across campuses to ensure consistency in quality,” she said.
The university also conducts an annual 360-degree curriculum review with input from industry leaders, alumni, students and academic experts, resulting in nearly 20 per cent of course content being updated every year.
AI training initiative
NMIMS has partnered with an online education platform under a Rs 9 crore initiative to provide domain-specific artificial intelligence training in areas such as marketing, finance, technology and pharmacy.
Students will receive free access to more than 1,800 online courses.
“Artificial intelligence is transforming every profession, and universities must equip students with practical and industry-relevant AI skills. These courses will be integrated into academics so that students graduate industry-ready,” Chintamaneni said.
The Ahmedabad campus will initially operate as a non-residential facility. The university has arranged temporary accommodation nearby and is exploring options for a permanent hostel within walking distance of the campus.
