The theft took place at Abhushan Gold and Silver, a jewellery showroom located in Gravity Shopping Mall near Anmol Circle in Nikol.
According to showroom owner Darshanbhai Jain, the theft came to light during a routine stock audit conducted by the management. During verification, officials reportedly found that more than 1.2 kg of gold jewellery was missing from the showroom inventory.
Police said the stolen items included gold chains, rings, bangles, mangalsutras, pendants, watches and several other expensive ornaments. The total value of the missing jewellery is estimated to be over ₹1.11 crore.
Suspicion fell on salesgirl Harshida Shetty after she suddenly stopped reporting to work and went missing. During the investigation, police examined CCTV footage from the showroom, which allegedly showed her secretly removing jewellery from storage cupboards and hiding it inside her clothes before leaving the showroom with her bag.
Using CCTV footage and technical surveillance, the Crime Branch tracked down Harshida and her alleged lover, who police claim was also involved in planning the theft. Officials said the couple had travelled to places including Delhi and Rishikesh after the incident.
Both accused are currently being questioned by police. Investigators are also examining their bank transactions and mobile call records to determine whether any other individuals were involved in selling or concealing the stolen jewellery.
