The self-enumeration process for Census 2027 will begin in Gujarat from May 17, allowing citizens to submit household details online through the official portal: se.census.gov.in
The exercise is being conducted by the Directorate of Census Operations Gujarat under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
For the first time, the Government of India has introduced a self-enumeration facility, enabling citizens to voluntarily provide details related to their homes, family members, facilities, assets and other information digitally in a secure and convenient manner.
The online self-enumeration process in Gujarat will remain open from May 17 to May 31, 2026.
Steps for Self-Enumeration
Step 1: Login to the Portal
- Visit Census Self-Enumeration Portal
- Select your State/UT
- Enter the captcha code
- Authorities recommend using a laptop or desktop for the process
Step 2: Create Family Profile
- Enter the name of the head of the family
- The name cannot be changed later
- Keep a mobile number ready for each family
- Email ID is optional
Step 3: Language Selection and OTP
- Choose the preferred language
- The selected language cannot be changed later
- Enter the OTP sent to the registered mobile number for verification
Step 4: Register Location
- Select district details
- Enter village, town or city information
- Provide PIN code
Step 5: Locate Residence
- Mark the house location on the map
- Click “Save and Next”
Step 6: Fill Household Information
- Enter details related to family members and household information
Step 7: Verify Information
- Review all details carefully
- Edit information if needed
- Drafts can also be saved
Step 8: Final Submission
- Once submitted, the form cannot be modified
- Complete submission before the deadline
- A unique 11-digit SE ID will be generated
- The SE ID will also be sent through SMS or email
- Citizens are advised to save a screenshot of the acknowledgement receipt
Step 9: Field Verification
- An enumerator will visit the residence
- Information will be verified using the SE ID
- Additional details may be requested if required
Officials said the initiative is aimed at improving digital participation, convenience and accuracy in Census operations.
Apart from self-enumeration, House Listing Operations (HLO) will be conducted across Gujarat from June 1 to June 30, 2026 through door-to-door surveys by Census officials using a dedicated mobile application.
Authorities also clarified that all information collected during Census operations remains strictly confidential under the provisions of the Census Act 1948.
