Ahmedabad — The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued new guidelines for the upcoming National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), set for May 3. This update is a welcome change for the approximately 22 lakh candidates registered this year.
In previous years, many students faced hurdles due to failed biometric verifications, which often stemmed from technical glitches or poor fingerprint quality. These issues led to some candidates being denied entry into exam halls, creating significant stress and controversy.
However, under the new rules, candidates won’t be barred from taking the exam even if their biometric verification fails. Instead, they’ll need to submit a written undertaking at the examination center. The NTA plans to provide a format for this declaration directly during the exam.
The agency specified that valid reasons for biometric failure include machine malfunctions, unclear fingerprints, and physical limitations of candidates. Once they submit their undertakings, students will be allowed entry and can proceed with their exams.
Additionally, in an effort to reduce anxiety during testing hours—2 PM to 5 PM—NTA officials have instructed staff not to address any biometric concerns that might arise while candidates are taking the test.
