The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that the second phase of its two-board examination policy for Class 10 students will begin from May 15.
Under the revised system, students unhappy with their first-phase results can reappear in up to three subjects to improve their scores. Those placed in the compartment category are also eligible to take the second-phase exams. The board had declared the first-phase results on April 15.
This year, around 24.71 lakh students appeared for the exams nationwide. Of these, nearly 23.16 lakh cleared, while about 1.55 lakh students did not pass.
In Gujarat, a total of 45,107 students appeared, with 43,576 passing and around 1,531 failing, making them eligible for improvement or compartment exams under the new policy.
A key feature of the system is flexibility in mathematics, allowing students to switch between standard and basic levels in the second attempt based on their preference and performance.
However, unlike the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB), which allows improvement in all subjects, CBSE has limited the option to a maximum of three subjects.
