Nearly 2.5 lakh apply for 84,000 RTE seats in Gujarat

The admission process under the Right to Education Act (RTE) in private schools across Gujarat concluded on Thursday, with nearly 2.5 lakh applications received for over 84,000 seats under the 25% quota.

The application window, initially open from April 4 to April 17, was extended by six days following requests from parents, leading to an additional 44,000 applications. In total, 2,49,946 forms were submitted, up from around 2.06 lakh by the original deadline and higher than last year’s 2,38,942 applications.

Under the RTE Act, children from economically weaker and middle-income families are eligible for admission to 25% seats in private schools. This year, 9,722 schools are part of the process.

With the application phase now closed, district-level verification has begun. Applicants whose forms are rejected due to missing or incorrect documents will get another opportunity to upload them between April 27 and April 29. The verification process will continue until April 30.

The first round of seat allotment is scheduled to be announced on May 4. Despite the surge in applications, the total number of available seats has dropped by around 9,000 this year.
