A significant fire erupted Thursday afternoon at a scrap warehouse near Charodi on the Viramgam-Ahmedabad highway, close to Sanand. The blaze reportedly started in a godown filled with scrap material and rapidly escalated into an enormous fire that consumed the entire site.
Thick plumes of smoke were visible for miles, with videos of the incident spreading across social media platforms. Emergency teams from the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Service quickly arrived at the scene and are currently working to control the situation.
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far. “The fire spread rapidly due to the combustible nature of the materials stored in the warehouse,” an official explained. They added that while extensive firefighting operations are ongoing, assessing the full extent of damage will take time. Early reports indicate that nearly all contents of the godown were destroyed.
The location of this warehouse is concerning as it’s situated near several industrial units, including a facility belonging to Kirloskar company. Authorities assured that precautions are being implemented to prevent any potential spread of flames to these nearby establishments.
While firefighters continue their efforts, officials noted that they are unsure about what sparked this significant blaze. Investigations will commence once control over the fire is established.
