The Embassy of India in Hanoi has released an advisory for Indian travellers visiting Vietnam, highlighting important visa rules and issues related to lost passports. The advisory states that Phu Quoc Island allows visa-free entry for Indians under certain conditions, but this is strictly limited to the island and does not permit travel to mainland Vietnam.
It warned that in emergencies like medical issues or flight disruptions, travellers may need to travel to cities such as Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi. Without a valid mainland visa, this could lead to delays, restrictions, and immigration problems.
Indian travellers are therefore advised to get a proper Vietnam visa before visiting Phu Quoc, even if they plan to stay only on the island.
The embassy also reported several cases of Indians losing their passports in Vietnam. In such situations, travellers must file a police complaint locally, which is required for further help from the embassy or the Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.
While emergency travel documents can be issued quickly, it may take 3 to 5 working days to get an exit permit from Vietnamese authorities. During this time, travellers will have to stay in the country.
The embassy has urged all travellers to stay careful and informed to avoid problems during their trip.
