Vadodara: The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (MSU) has made a significant change to its admission policies just ahead of the upcoming academic year. Starting now, 95% of seats in the Faculty of Commerce will be reserved for local students from Vadodara.
This decision comes on the heels of last year’s backlash when the university cut the local quota down to 75%. Student groups voiced strong objections at that time, urging MSU to reconsider its stance. Acknowledging these concerns, university officials have reverted and even expanded the local preference.
In addition to increasing the quota, MSU is also shaking things up by implementing an entrance test for First Year B.Com (FYBCom) admissions. This marks a shift away from relying solely on merit-based admissions, with applicants now required to pass this new exam in order to secure their place.
The total number of available seats this year stands at 6,730. University authorities believe that these changes will not only prioritize local candidates but also improve academic standards by ensuring that deserving students gain admission through a competitive process.
