The situation at the Government Dental College on the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital campus has taken a troubling turn. Intern students, initially thought to have resolved their strike, are now escalating their complaints to higher authorities.
They’ve approached the health and family welfare department, claiming they’ve faced coercion and intimidation from the dean. Their protest began over issues of hostel accommodations during internships and scholarship concerns.
In a written complaint, the interns allege they were pressured into signing blank documents. These signatures were reportedly misused to claim that their grievances had been addressed. “We weren’t expecting this level of intimidation,” one student expressed.
The allegations don’t stop there. Students assert the dean threatened to withhold one month’s scholarship if they didn’t comply. Restrictions on communication among interns have also been imposed, further deepening their distress.
In light of these accusations, the interns are demanding that the dean, along with several other officials, be removed from their positions due to what they describe as harassment and financial exploitation.
