Ahmedabad, February 25, 2026: Starting today, motorists across Gujarat will face heightened scrutiny as the police launch a special traffic enforcement drive that runs until March 10. The initiative comes in response to rising road accidents statewide.
The State Police Chief, Dr. K.L.N. Rao, has instructed all Police Commissioners and District Police Chiefs to ramp up efforts in this crackdown. Local police teams will join forces with traffic officers to patrol the roads more effectively.
This focused effort will target various traffic violations including riding without helmets, operating vehicles lacking number plates, and driving cars with tinted glass. Additionally, authorities will monitor for wrong-way driving, overcrowded passenger vehicles, and instances of drunken driving.
Despite previous enforcement campaigns aimed at reducing accidents, officials note that the number of incidents has increased compared to last year. This new campaign seeks to strictly apply the Motor Vehicles Act provisions in an attempt to reverse this trend.
Authorities have been directed to compile daily reports detailing actions taken against violators and submit them via email to the State Police Chief’s office.
Authorities are urging residents to follow traffic rules diligently to avoid penalties and ensure safety on the roads during this period.
