The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has issued a public warning about a growing online scam targeting vehicle owners searching for FASTag Annual Pass services on India’s national highways.Fraudsters are creating fake websites and links that claim to sell the ₹3,000 FASTag Annual Pass, a scheme that allows eligible private, non-commercial vehicles up to 200 highway trips or one year of travel. Many of these fraudulent websites appear legitimate and often show up prominently in online search results through paid advertisements and manipulated listings.Users who fall for these scams are tricked into entering payment details or scanning malicious QR codes, which can lead to financial losses of around ₹3,000 per transaction, diversion of money to fraudulent bank accounts, and theft of personal and vehicle information. Several complaints have already been reported and are being monitored by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre under the Ministry of Home Affairs.NHAI clarified that the FASTag Annual Pass is available only through the official Rajmarg Yatra mobile app, and no third-party websites, social media links, WhatsApp or Telegram messages, or external platforms are authorised to sell the pass.
Safety tips issued by NHAI:
Purchase or activate the FASTag Annual Pass only through the official Rajmarg Yatra app.
Avoid clicking on suspicious advertisements, links, or promotional messages offering the pass.
Do not share FASTag, vehicle, or payment details on unverified websites.
Immediately report any suspicious links or fraud attempts to cybercrime authorities.
Authorities have urged commuters to stay alert and verify sources carefully before making any FASTag-related payments online.
