Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel chaired a meeting of the Governing Council of the Sabarmati Ashram Memorial Trust in Gandhinagar on Thursday. Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi also attended the meeting, where officials reviewed the progress of the Ashram’s modernisation and redevelopment works.
Executive Council Chairman I. P. Gautam presented a detailed update, stating that restoration work is underway on 28 houses at the Ashram. Of these, 22 houses have already been restored, and the remaining work is expected to be completed by March 2026.
Following the green-growth vision emphasised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, around 98,000 trees and plants have been planted so far within the Ashram premises. Another 16,000 plantations are planned by March 2026.
The council also discussed ways to involve visitors, especially young people, in service activities inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s concept of Shramdaan (voluntary labour), linking these initiatives with the Ashram’s ongoing programmes. The agenda of the previous Governing Council meeting was also approved.

Das; Youth, Services and Cultural Activities Secretary Rahul Gupta; Additional Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Vikrant Pandey; Tourism Secretary Kuldeep Arya; and OSD of the Ashram Trust I. K. Patel.
