Strengthening Indo-Vietnam Academic Ties: Short-term Research Exchange at IITGN Marks a Strong Start to the IIT-VNU Collaboration

The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) recently hosted a two-week collaborative research visit by faculty members and PhD scholars from Vietnam National University, University of Engineering and Technology (VNU-UET), from January 08 to January 20, 2026, marking a significant step in the active implementation of the existing academic collaboration between the two institutions.

The visit brought together faculty members and research scholars from VNU-UET and IIT Gandhinagar for intensive academic engagement, research discussions, and exploration of long-term collaboration opportunities. The interaction focused particularly on the Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering domains, enabling close engagement with IITGN faculty members and research groups.

The visiting delegation included Dr Phạm Đình Nguyện, Lecturer, Faculty of Civil Engineering, VNU-UET; Dr Nguyễn Văn Thương, Lecturer, Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, VNU-UET; and PhD scholars MSc. Nguyễn Thế Thịnh, MSc. Nguyễn Văn Luân, and MSc. Nguyễn Xuân Thành, who are also lecturers at Thai Nguyen University of Industry (TNUT).

Throughout the visit, the delegation engaged in detailed discussions on ongoing research activities, laboratory practices, and interdisciplinary approaches, enabling meaningful academic exchange and knowledge sharing. The interactions provided a platform to identify potential areas for joint research, co-publications, faculty exchange, and long-term academic collaboration, translating formal institutional agreements into active and outcome-oriented engagement.

Reflecting on the experience, the visiting Vietnamese faculty shared their appreciation for IIT Gandhinagar’s academic environment and research culture.

“The Vietnam National University of Technology faculty greatly appreciated the strong academic and research culture at IIT Gandhinagar. We look forward to endorsing this collaboration within our university and across Vietnam and encouraging our students and research scholars to explore study and research opportunities at IIT Gandhinagar,” said Dr Phạm Đình Nguyện, Lecturer, Faculty of Civil Engineering, VNU University of Engineering and Technology (VNU-UET).

The visit also highlighted IIT Gandhinagar’s strong academic ecosystem, research infrastructure, and collaborative culture, which together create an enabling environment for international partnerships. The discussions reflected a shared commitment to advancing research excellence, capacity building, and global academic connectivity.

In addition to academic engagements, the delegation also experienced India’s cultural and historical context, which helped strengthen institutional ties and people-to-people connections. Such interactions support long-term collaboration based on mutual understanding and shared academic values.

The visit showed that IIT Gandhinagar and VNU-UET are committed to working together on research and academic projects. It also highlighted how ongoing collaboration can create real results, stronger research connections, and more opportunities for faculty and students at both universities.
