Education transparency: CBSE makes school information disclosure mandatory

In a major step to improve transparency and accountability, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made it compulsory for all affiliated schools to publicly disclose key information on their official websites.

The board has warned that strict action will be taken against schools that fail to comply or upload incomplete or incorrect details. The initiative aims to strengthen trust in CBSE-affiliated institutions and help parents make informed choices while selecting schools for their children.

According to the latest CBSE notification, schools must ensure that detailed, accurate and updated information about their functioning, facilities and academic performance is easily accessible to parents and students.

General information
Schools are required to publish basic details such as the school’s full name, CBSE affiliation number, school code, address, contact information, and the name and qualifications of the principal. Mandatory documents include CBSE affiliation and upgradation letters, trust or society registration certificates, state government NOC, and recognition certificates under the Right to Education (RTE) Act.

Infrastructure details
Schools must disclose complete infrastructure-related information, including total campus area, building and fire safety certificates, drinking water availability, sanitation and toilet facilities. Details of academic and sports infrastructure—such as libraries, science and computer labs, and sports amenities—must also be uploaded.

Fee structure and academics
To enhance financial transparency, schools must publish their fee structure, annual academic calendar, and details of the School Management Committee (SMC) and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). They must also upload Class 10 and Class 12 board examination results for the past three years, including the number of students and pass percentages.

Staff qualifications
Schools are required to disclose information about teaching staff, including qualifications, professional training, and subject-wise deployment of the principal, vice-principal and teachers.
