The Ahmedabad City Police have announced traffic restrictions and diversions in parts of Motera and nearby areas in view of the India–South Africa T20 international match scheduled at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday, December 19.
In an order issued on December 18, Police Commissioner G S Malik said the measures are aimed at ensuring smooth movement of spectators, players, VVIPs and the general public, while also preventing traffic congestion and accidents during the high-profile event.
The restrictions, imposed under provisions of the Gujarat Police Act, 1951, will be in effect from 3 pm to midnight on December 19 and from midnight to 2 am on December 20.
Restricted roads
As per the notification, all types of vehicular traffic will be restricted on the stretch from Janpath T-junction to the Motera Stadium main gate via Krupa Residency T-junction and Motera Village T-junction. The decision has been taken in anticipation of a heavy influx of vehicles near the stadium within a short period.
Alternative routes
To ease traffic flow, motorists heading towards Motera have been advised to travel from Tapovan Circle to ONGC Crossroads, then via Visat T-junction to Janpath T-junction and further towards Power House Crossroads. Movement to and from Prabodhaval Circle will also be permitted along these routes.
Commuters can alternatively use the route via Krupa Residency T-junction, Sharan Status Crossroads and Bhat–Koteshwar Road towards Apollo Circle to bypass the restricted stretch around the stadium.
Traffic police personnel will be stationed at key junctions to manage diversions and assist commuters.
Exempted vehicles
The restrictions will not apply to vehicles connected with the cricket match, government vehicles on official duty, fire brigade and ambulance services, emergency response vehicles, and residents living within the restricted zones.
Police have warned that violations of the traffic order will invite legal action under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Gujarat Police Act, with the Commissioner authorising the filing of complaints against violators.
