Students of the Samras Hostel in Sector 15 of Gandhinagar staged a protest on Tuesday after allegedly being served duplicate paneer during dinner. The hostel is operated under the Gujarat government’s Social Justice and Empowerment Department.
Students said they had been complaining for a long time about the poor quality of food, but the issue intensified when they noticed that the paneer served at dinner was allegedly fake and unfit for consumption. Angry over the incident, several students entered the hostel kitchen and raised slogans, demanding immediate action.
During the protest, students also alleged that the kitchen was unhygienic and poorly maintained. They claimed that despite repeated complaints about food quality and cleanliness, the hostel management had failed to take corrective steps.
Confronting the kitchen operators, the students demanded accountability and warned that they would not tolerate substandard food being served in a government-run hostel.
Samras hostels function under the supervision and budget of the Social Justice and Empowerment Department, with large contracts awarded for food services. The incident has once again highlighted concerns over food quality, hygiene, and monitoring in government-run hostels.
