The Centre has cleared highway projects worth 20,000 crore for Gujarat under the National Highways Authority of India, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced during a high-level review meeting in Gandhinagar with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
Gadkari delivered a strong message that road quality in the state must not be compromised. Contractors and NHAI officials will face strict action for any lapse in construction, maintenance or resurfacing, he warned. Public convenience and safety, he added, should remain the top priority.
He instructed teams to finish all ongoing projects within deadlines to ensure smooth connectivity across major corridors.
Chief Minister Patel noted that Gujarat’s national highways carry over 35% of the state’s total traffic, requiring continuous upgrades. He urged faster progress on key routes such as Ahmedabad–Mumbai, Rajkot–Gondal–Jetpur and Ahmedabad–Udaipur.
With more than 5,000 km of National Highways and an even wider State Highway network, Gujarat links major economic routes, including the Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor, major ports like Kandla, Mundra and Pipavav, and industrial hubs such as Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot and Jamnagar.
