In a widespread internet disruption on Tuesday, several major websites and digital services—including ChatGPT and X (formerly Twitter)—became temporarily inaccessible due to a significant outage at Cloudflare, one of the world’s largest web infrastructure and security providers.
According to Cloudflare’s system status page, the company was grappling with issues impacting its customer support portal, which appeared to ripple across multiple services dependent on its network. Cloudflare had also scheduled routine maintenance in certain regions earlier in the day, though the company has not confirmed whether the outage was linked to those activities.
For a brief period, even Cloudflare’s own outage status page failed to load, leaving users and businesses without official updates. The disruption triggered confusion across social media platforms, where many users reported being unable to access popular websites, apps and tools that rely on Cloudflare for traffic routing and security protection.
Service began returning gradually as Cloudflare engineers worked to resolve the problem. The company is expected to release a detailed incident report once the investigation concludes.
The outage highlights the internet’s growing dependence on a few critical infrastructure providers—where a single failure can cascade across the digital ecosystem, affecting millions of users worldwide.
