The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nagoya Institute of Technology (NITech), Japan, on November 13, 2025, to strengthen academic collaboration and promote student and faculty exchanges between the two institutions.
The MoU establishes a broad framework for cooperation in education, research, and innovation, paving the way for joint research initiatives, exchange of students, faculty, and research scholars, and sharing of academic materials and scientific information.
Under the agreement, both institutions will facilitate a student exchange programme that allows undergraduate and graduate students to study or conduct research at the partner institution. The programme aims to promote cross-cultural academic exposure and enhance research collaboration in science and technology.
The MoU will remain valid for five years, with an option for automatic renewal. It reflects IIT Gandhinagar’s continued commitment to building strong global partnerships and providing international learning opportunities to its students and faculty.
Prof Rajat Moona, Director, IITGN, met with the visiting delegates and warmly welcomed them to the campus. He reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to deepening its partnership with NITech.
“The Government of Japan and our universities are actively working to expand academic and cultural exchanges among students, faculty, and researchers,” said Mr Iwasaki, Vice-President, NITech, Japan, who joined the ceremony online.“ At NITech, we are particularly focused on areas such as electrical engineering, materials science, and technology, given Nagoya’s strong industrial base in sectors like automobile manufacturing and aerospace. Through this partnership with IIT Gandhinagar, we look forward to welcoming students for short- and long-term exchange, research, and academic programs.
We also aim to facilitate internships and collaborations with industry partners to enhance their global learning experience,” he added.
Prof Madhav Pathak, faculty-in-charge, International Relations, IITGN shared an overview of the institute, highlighting the academic programmes, state-of-the-art facilities, and collaboration mechanisms. “We will work together with NITech to develop well-structured student exchange programmes and explore funding mechanisms to support students,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the President of Nagoya Institute of Technology, Mr Yamaguchi Hiroshi, Manager of the International Affairs Division, appreciated the growing collaboration between the two institutions. “This partnership presents excellent operational opportunities for advancing joint research and academic exchange,” he said. “We look forward to active engagement between our professors and students, fostering innovation and strengthening the academic ties between NITech and IIT Gandhinagar.”
