Ahmedabad’s air turned hazardous on Thursday night as the Air Quality Index (AQI) rose to 212. Thaltej recorded the worst pollution level in the city with an AQI of 300.
By Thursday evening, 12 areas in Ahmedabad crossed the AQI level of 200. While the city’s average AQI stayed below 100 in the afternoon, pollution levels increased sharply after 6 pm.
Ahmedabad’s air was more polluted than Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad. Mumbai recorded an AQI of 148, while Delhi remained the most polluted with an AQI of 407.
Health experts warn that rising pollution can cause breathing problems, especially for sensitive groups. They advise people to wear masks when stepping outdoors.
