Rann Utsav tariffs rise 25% as cheap flights boost foreign travel
With a spectacular supermoon expected on December 5, tourist hotspots across Gujarat, other Indian states, and popular foreign destinations are gearing up to host “supermoon parties.” The events are drawing both couples seeking a romantic getaway and youngsters eager for a unique travel experience.
According to travel agents, the first week of December will see supermoon celebrations at the Rann Utsav in Kutch, as well as in Rajasthan, Goa, Thailand, Bali, and Vietnam.
Prashant Madlani, Gujarat Chairman of the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI), said, “We are getting a strong response for Rann Utsav bookings, especially from Mumbai and Bengaluru. However, the 20–25% hike in tariffs during the supermoon weekend is a concern for some travellers. Tents priced around ₹18,000 per night are rising to ₹25,000.” He added that affordable airfares are also encouraging many to opt for overseas destinations like Thailand, Bali, and Vietnam.
Travel experts note that cheaper international flight fares — ranging between ₹20,000 and ₹35,000 for round trips — are making foreign travel more attractive. Mahendra Vakharia of Pathfinders Holidays said, “Thailand’s famous full moon parties have inspired many to visit during the supermoon. Bali and Vietnam are also gaining popularity, while Rann Utsav continues to attract strong interest.”
Tent City sees strong demand
Krinal Thaker of Lallooji and Sons, which manages the Rann Utsav Tent City, said, “We’re receiving strong bookings from Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Gujarat for the supermoon weekend. Visitors from outside the state now make up nearly half of all bookings, as many want to witness the white desert glow under the moonlight.”
She added that even during the November 5 supermoon, bookings were impressive — underscoring the growing appeal of the moonlit Rann experience.
