In Ahmedabad, 32 municipal schools still operate in tin-sheet structures across various wards. The state government has approved funding to demolish these makeshift buildings and construct permanent school structures. The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will soon invite tenders for the new construction.
These schools are spread across the city’s six zones—North, Central, East, South, South-West, and West—and together accommodate 9,753 students in 179 classrooms under unsafe tin roofs.
Standing Committee Chairman Devang Dani noted that six of these schools currently run in rented premises. Following government approval, the AMC will begin phased construction of the new buildings after the tendering process.
